Obituary

Myra Isabell Watson age 90 of Big Rapids, passed away Tuesday, December 29, 2009. She was born November 24, 1919 in Bushnell, Illinois the daughter of Angell and Lena (Pierce) Pappas. Myra married Earl A. Watson on March 14, 1940. They made their home in Bushnell, IL and later moved to Champaign-Urbana where they owned and operated "The Made-Rite Restaurant" . In 1960 they moved to Big Rapids to make their home. During the years from 1959 to 1985 Myra and Earl managed the kitchen and cafeteria at the National Summer Palastrum, a summer gymnastic camp. Myra also worked as a receptionist at Ferris State University, retiring in the late 1970's. She was a member of American Legion Post #98 Ladies Auxiliary of Big Rapids, Eagles Aerie #2535 of Big Rapids, the Big Rapids Elks Club, the Mecosta County R.S.V.P. and the United Church of Big Rapids. Myra is survived by her 2 children, Virginia (Richard) Spedowske of Big Rapids, Michael (Margaret) Watson of DeWitt; 7 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; a sister, Virginia Blake of Arlington, VA and many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Myra was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Watson on November 8, 1985, a brother Morris Pappas and a daughter Marsha Brantley, her husband David, and their three children, David, Stephen, and Michael. Funeral services will take place 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 2nd at the Daggett Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids with Reverend Jerena Keys officiating. The family will greet friends Friday evening from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Highland View Cemetery in Big Rapids.
