Monell E. Dukes, age 90 of Big Rapids, passed away Sunday, December 13, 2015 at her home. Monell went to her Lord and joined her loving husband of 65 years, Dale. She was born December 5, 1925 in southern Michigan the daughter of Dennis and Bessie (Draper) Butler. Monell married Dale B. Dukes on June 19, 1943 and they lived in Freeport for many years. In 1970, the family moved to the Big Rapids area. Monell managed the household and raised their five sons while her husband worked at his business. Following retirement, Monell and Dale enjoyed many years of wintering in Florida where they made many dear friends. Monell was a member of the Rogers Heights Christian Church and attended the Big Rapids Church of Christ for the past several years.Monell is survived by her five sons; Martin (Sue) Dukes of Pentwater, Randy (Diane) Dukes of Big Rapids, Steven (Mary) Dukes of Stanwood, Perry (Patty) Dukes of Big Rapids, Rex (Tina) Dukes of Stanwood; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, and dear friends, John and Joyce Hilligoss of Big Rapids. A memorial service will take place 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 18, 2015 at the Rogers Heights Christian Church.
