Obituary

Monagene Eggleston, age 94, of Six Lakes, passed away Wednesday, July 7, 2021 at Kelsey Extended Care in Lakeview, which was her wonderful home for nearly two years. Monagene was born August 5, 1926, the daughter of Vern R. and Rosalinda (Zielke) Crittenden. She was raised in Remus where she graduated from high school. Monagene married Ernest Eggleston, together they made their home in Remus and later settled permanently in Six Lakes. She was a homemaker for several years before working at a local factory. In 1970, Monagene made the decision to take a leap of faith and established Monas Dress Shop in Lakeview. She owned and operated the business for over 12 years. When her husband Ernie retired Monagene sold the dress shop. In 1986 she took a part-time job at the Six Lakes Ace Hardware and retired after 25 years. Monagene was a positive and influential member of the Six Lakes Community. She loved her little town and helped every one and everywhere she could. Monagene was an avid Tigers and Pistons fan, she enjoyed bingo, trips to Florida with her dear friend Ruthie, hosting her annual Labor Day fund raiser and visiting with friends and family at the local watering hole. She is survived by her three daughters; Elaine (Brad) Laing of Simpsonville, SC, Jane (Dave Skutt) Vaughn of Six Lakes, Rebecca (Harvey) Godfrey of Holland; five grandchildren, Nicholle (Tom) Goodnight, Andrew (Tonja) Laing, Sara Jane (Derick) Chapman, Elizabeth (Alejandro) Castaneda, Jacklynn (Joseph) Brunet; 14 great-grandchildren, Cooper, Abby, Emily and Millie Goodnight; Ayden, Charley and Sam Laing, Tristan Nash, Gator Chapman; Daniel, Olivia and Alejandro Jr. Castaneda, Jackson and Harper Brunet; many nieces and nephews. Monagene was preceded in death by her husband, Ernie Eggleston in 1984, her brother and sister-in-law Jack and Lois Crittenden, sister and brother-in-law Fawn and George Daggett, and a niece, Cindy Crittenden Thren. Funeral services will take place at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, July 10, 2021 at the Church of the Gentle Shepherd in Six Lakes with Pastor Bob Jones officiating. The family will greet friends on Friday, July 9th from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. also at the Church. Monagene will be laid to rest at Hillcrest Cemetery in Six Lakes. Memorial contributions in Monagenes name may be made to the Church of the Gentle Shepherd or a charity of the donors choice.
