Mitchell "Mick" Abbott age 84, a lifetime resident of Weidman, passed away Saturday, January 16, 2021. He was born January 18, 1936 in Weidman the son of Donald and Birdie (Powell) Abbott. Mitchell married the former Carol Kennedy in 1955. Together they made their home in Weidman where he owned and operated the Weidman Gulf Station. Mick also worked in Mt. Pleasant where he learned the furniture business. Equipped with that knowledge he established Abbott Furniture in Weidman. With Carol by his side and expertise from his father Don; Mick put the kids and relatives to work and operated a very successful family business. Over ten years ago, Mick and Carol were able to step into retirement leaving the next Abbott generation in charge. Mick was a member of the Weidman Baptist Church. He is survived by his beloved wife of over 65 years, Carol; two sons, Mark (Laura) Abbott and Terry (Cora) Abbott all of Weidman; seven grandchildren, Michael (Jenn) Marcy, Robert (Melissa Perez) Abbott, Katreena (Jason) Carrick, Christopher (Kelly) Abbott, Nicole (Michael) Powell, Michelle Abbott and Aimee Abbott; nine great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Linda Abbott of Weidman and many nieces and nephews. Mick was preceded in death by his parents, a son Robert Mitchell Abbott, a sister, Phyllis Wernette and a brother Donald Wayne Abbott. The family will greet friends on Thursday, January 21st at the Weidman Baptist Church from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. COVID-19 restrictions will be strictly observed with masks required, social distancing imposed and 25 guests allowed in the church at one time. At 1:00 p.m. a family funeral service will take place with Pastor Dean Willard officiating. Mitchell will be laid to rest at Fairview Cemetery in Weidman.
