Milton T. Benson, 77, of Stanwood, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 17, 2025.
He was born on August 15, 1947, in Big Rapids, the son of Marshall and Grace (Gerst) Benson. Milton graduated from Morley-Stanwood High School, Class of 1965. On October 10, 1970, he married the love of his life, Judy Kelley. Together, they shared 54 years of unwavering love and devotion.
Milton spent his entire life working on the family centennial farm—a place deeply rooted in legacy, hard work, and memories. His strong work ethic and long days on the land reflected his passion for farming and the property he called home. In addition to his work on the farm, Milton was employed by the Mecosta-Osceola Intermediate School District (ISD), where he left a lasting impression on countless students. He believed deeply that everyone should be treated fairly and his compassion made him a beloved figure to many. .
An active member of the Stanwood Free Methodist Church, Milton was grounded in both his faith and community. He loved being outdoors—especially fishing—and could often be found outside from sunrise to sunset. Everything he did was rooted in love and selflessness, always striving to go above and beyond for his family and those around him.
Milton is survived by his beloved wife, Judy Benson; Children: Toni Koons, Timothy (Sarah) Benson, Toby (Anna) Benson, and Torey (Lauren) Benson; Grandchildren: Marshall, Tyler, Colton, Samuel, Eliza, Jillian, Audrey, Brianna, Mitchell, and Caden; Brother: Lawrence (Jean) Benson; As well as many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Thomas; and several siblings.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, at 11:00 A.M. at Daggett Gilbert Funeral Home, Big Rapids. Visitation will take place on Monday, June 23, from 5:00–8:00 P.M., and again on Tuesday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service. Milton will be laid to rest at Aetna Township Cemetery.
Memorial donations in Milton's name may be made to the Fort Faith Baptist Camp in Morley.
