Obituary

Mildred L. Curths, age 89 of Spring Lake formerly of Stanwood, passed away Sunday, October 19, 2008. She was born September 6, 1919 in Arcadia, MI to Fred and Louise (Kabelman) Juergenmeyer. She married Elmer H. Curths on May 11, 1940 in Ohio. Together they made their home in Wyoming where Elmer worked at General Motors Diesel. Elmer retired in 1979 and they moved to Stanwood where Mildred lived until moving to Spring Lake, two years ago. Mildred was a skilled homemaker; she gardened and canned. She enjoyed watching Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy, doing Word Finds and was an avid Tigers fan. She was an active member in the communities where she lived. Mildred attended St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Remus and assisted the Ladies Aide Society. She was a member of American Legion Post #208 in Wyoming, MI serving as Past President and was a dedicated volunteer at the Grand Rapids Veterans Facility for a number of years. Mildred was involved with the Young at Hearts Seniors Club of Mecosta Co. Mildred took great pleasure in her family and friends. She is survived by her loving family; one daughter Gail Dewey of Spring Lake, 2 grandsons; Doug (Michelle) Dewey of Spring Lake, Dean (Brandie) Dewey of Rome, GA, 5 great-grandchildren; Jacqui, Drew, Destiny, Tyler and Trent, a sister; Anita Greenwald of Reed City and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Mildred was preceded in death by her husband Elmer on October 30, 1984, 3 sisters, Martha, Ann and Ella and 3 brothers Donald, Richard and Robert. Funeral services will take place 1:00 p.m. Friday, October 24th at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Remus with visitation one hour prior. The family will greet friends on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids.
