Obituary

Mikeal R. Barnhill, 65 of Barryton, passed away suddenly at home on Monday, February 21, 2011. He was born on November 4, 1945 in Lansing, Michigan to Carlas "Clyde" and Geneva (Redfern) Barnhill. Mike was honorably discharged from the United States Marine Corps after serving three tours of duty overseas during the Vietnam War. He was proud of his service to his country and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. Mike was raised in Lansing and moved to Barryton in January of 1993 where he became actively involved in the community. As president of the W. Chippewa Vista Association he was instrumental in the set up of the special assessment district to maintain roads. In 2000 he set up and managed the website for the Village of Barryton through his business DataCraft USA. Mike formerly sat on the Mecosta County Zoning Board of appeals, was the current chairman for the Fork Twp. board of review and the Fork Twp. election committee. Mike was talented with computers and used his knowledge to help many people in the Barryton community. Mike had a quick wit, enjoyed boxing, trips up to the UP riding quads and was looking forward to the coming baseball season. Mike is survived by his loving wife of 20 years Jan (Hackett) Barnhill of Barryton; two children, Todd Kandaris of Phoenix, AZ and Theresa Komara of Eaton Rapids, MI; stepson Larry Turrell of Lansing, MI; four grandchildren, Jack, Jerec, Anna and Christopher; one brother, Rudy (Betsy) of Lansing, half sister, Ivern Glass of Jackson, MO; dear friend and checker buddy Jack Bark Sr., nieces, nephews and several close friends. Mike was preceded in death by his parents and daughter Tammy Eitniear in 2008. Memorial services will take place 1:00 PM on Saturday, February 26, 2011at the Daggett Funeral Home in Barryton with visitation two hours prior. Military services will be held under the auspices of the Barryton American Legion, the Evart Honor Guard and Marine Corps I&I Grand Rapids. Memorial donations can be left at the funeral home to the family for a charity of their choice.
