Michael Alan Sanford, age 49, passed away on July 11, 2015. Michael was born April 26, 1966 in Midland, to Gustave Roser Sanford and Ardis (Tibbits) Sanford. Michael served his country with honor as a United States Marine. While in the Marines, Michael was recognized as Honor Graduate' at the elite Scout Sniper School. He performed exceptionally at all levels throughout his distinguished service. Michael loved the outdoors, he was an avid hunter, and loved to fish. Beyond all accomplishments, Michael was loved and respected by hundreds of people; he had a big heart and always looked out for others. Michael is survived by his father, Gustave of Big Rapids, and several brothers and sisters to include Scott Sanford of Sugarloaf, PA, Brian Sanford of Paris, Kerry Sanford of Paris, Dee Sanford of Waterford, S.T. Sanford of Saginaw, Grace Hayner of Freeland, John Sanford of Freeland, Leila Schaffer of Hope, Denise Brandt of Saginaw, Mary Ries of Brant, Gus Sanford of Freeland, Jim Sanford of Saginaw, and Mark Geeting of CA. Michael is also survived by his ex-wife of many years, Connie Cusimano of Big Rapids, and his step children Nick and Shane Fry. Michael was a loving uncle to dozens of nieces and nephews. Michael was preceded in death by his loving mother, Ardis (Tibbits) Sanford, his beloved sister Lenette Fuentes and brother, Kevin Sanford. A memorial service will take place 12:00 p.m. (noon) Saturday, July 18, 2015 at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids with Pastor Bruce Peterson officiating. The family will greet friends from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service at noon on Saturday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made in Michael's name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
