Michael L. McCleary, age 59 of Big Rapids, formerly of Livingston County, passed away Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at his home. He was born August 19, 1953 in Pittsburgh, PA, the son of Lane and Lela Bell (Rainwater) McCleary. Mike began his career as a carpenter, where he was employed by the Michigan Regional Council of Carpenters, Local 687. He worked on many projects as a foreman throughout his 27 years of employment before retiring. Mike was a hard worker and took pride in his accomplishments. Some of his greatest endeavors included the Renaissance Center and Ford Field in Detroit, the Bell Tower and many University of Michigan campus buildings in Ann Arbor, the Little River Casino in Manistee, and the Pfizer Project in Kalamazoo. Mike loved hunting, fishing, gardening, and sharing the wisdom and experiences he gained from traveling the country in his youth. He adored his children, family, and friends, and will be missed by all. Mike is survived by his wife, Beth McCleary of Big Rapids; his children, Kelly (Brad) Lovin of Pinckney and Michael McCleary of Pinckney; a step-son, Greg Wickings of Big Rapids; his siblings, Barb (Tom Wetherbee) Nasur of Pinckney, Patrick (Cindy) McCleary of Zephyrhills, FL, several nieces and nephews, including Teresa Pugh of Pinckney, and many extended family and friends. Mike was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation will take place Saturday, January 19, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. with a memorial service beginning at 3:00 p.m. at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids with Pastor Connie Shoemaker officiating.
