Michael L. "Mikey" Harvell, age 48 of Stanwood, passed away Saturday, August 4, 2012 from injuries sustained during a motorcycle accident. He was born June 15, 1964 in Flint, the son of Doyle and Lynn (Jennings) Harvell. Mikey met Shelly R. Purdy in California in 1980; they were married July 23, 1982 in Las Vegas, Nevada. He later enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and was honorably discharged. The young couple lived in California until moving to Rodney in 1992. Mikey had worked as a directional driller and most recently worked as a bail bondsman. In addition to his family, Mikey's passion in life was his Harley. He was a longtime member of the "Loyal Riders M.C." riding with his brothers was a huge part of his life. Mikey enjoyed the loving companionship of every Pit-bull he ever owned, his last one named Lexi. He is survived by his loving family, including his wife of 30 years, Shelly Harvell of Stanwood; his mother, Lynn Duncan of Flint; his father, Doyle Harvell of Flint; five children, Michael (Angela) Harvell Jr. of Stanwood, Ken-Bob Harvell of Rodney, Jeffrey Harvell of Stanwood, Brandon (Lynette) Harvell of Beaufort, SC, Amber Harvell of Beaufort, SC; seven grandchildren, Cadence and Gregory Harvell, Andrew LaFrance, Evan Doolittle, Aaron Brown, Liam Harvell and Dakota Cundiff; four brothers, Doyle Harvell, Jeffrey Harvell, Lewis Duncan all of Flint, Vincent (Kristina) Harvell of Farwell; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and many Bro's. Mikey was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Shyanne and Landen Harvell and his parents-in-law, Gloria and Mr. P. Graveside committal service and military honors will take place 3:00 p.m. Friday, August 10th at the Rodney Cemetery. The family will greet friends at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. also on Friday August 10th; at 2:00 p.m. the funeral procession will leave the funeral home for the 3:00 p.m. services at the Rodney Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Mikey's name may be made to the Hemophilia Foundation of Michigan.
