Merita L. Westveer, age 81 of Reed City, passed away Tuesday, May 18, 2021. She was born in Palm Beach, Florida on April 3, 1940, the daughter of Gordon and Nancy (Gonser) Nobles. Adopted by Kenneth Lyle Nelson.Merita married Earl Westveer on March 6, 1999, and together they made their home on the channel of Todd Lake. It was there that they enjoyed their hobby farm, feeding the birds, gardening and canning. Merita had many talents that she passed on to her family, including: ceramics, sewing, knitting, and crocheting. She was a member of the Reed City Moose Lodge 705, Reed City AmVets 2965, and the local 4-H when she was young. Merita will be missed by her family and friends. She is survived by her five children, Paula Rockinger of Luther, Tammy Kelley of Reed City, Colleen (Ed Kelley) Bradley of Cassopolis, Lyle (Valerie) Christy of Orlando, Florida, Robin Patton of Reed City; Step children Mark Westveer of Eau Claire, Jim (Kate) Westveer of Galien, and Sandy (John) Wines of Walkerton: 15 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; brother, Cliff Nelson of Sodus; and several nieces and nephews. Merita was preceded in death by her parents, husband Earl Westveer on October 18, 2020, grandson Daniel Bradley, sons-in-law Robert Rockinger, Len Kelley, and Jerry Patton, and sister-in-law Betty Nelson.
