Megan Nichole DePew, age 21 of Stanwood passed away at her home on Thursday, January 22, 2009 with her loving family at her side. She was born May 22, 1987 in Big Rapids to Dennis and Phyllis (Conner) DePew. Megan was a vibrant and healthy girl until the age of six when she was diagnosed with Battens Disease. She was a prankster and loved teasing her teachers when she was at school. Megan enjoyed handicap horseback riding "" calling the horse "her pig" , the company of other people, listening to books on tape and the television. Her favorite character was the Little Mermaid and her stuffed kitty brought her joy. Megan- lovingly known as a little s@#! will be deeply missed by her mother Phyllis and her partner Kelly McDonald of Stanwood, Father: Dennis DePew of Leroy, A sister Caitlin DePew of Stanwood, Step-sisters: Rachel and Brooke DePew of Leroy, Paternal grandparents: Robert and Violet DePew of Paris and many Aunts, Uncles and cousins. Megan is now in Heaven with her maternal Grandmother, Marjorie Conner who passed away on January 14, 2009, her beloved dog Jasmine and Grandpa John Conner. The family will greet friends from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Sunday, January 25, 2009 at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids with a vigil service that night at 7:30p.m. A mass of Christian Burial will take place 2:00 p.m. at St. Paul's Campus Parish in Big Rapids with Father Lam T. Le officiating. As a final gift Megan's organs were donated for Battens research to one day find a cure for this devastating disease. In lieu of flowers memorial donations in Megan's name may be given to the Battens Disease Support and Research Association (166 Humphries Dr. Reynoldsburg, OH 43068).
