Obituary

Max Evart Lee, age 93 of Stanwood, passed away Saturday, July 9, 2022 at his home while under the care of hospice. He was born April 8, 1929 in Marion the son of Mark and Lena (Cooper) Lee. While attending Marion High School, Max met the former Elaine M. Reed and they were married on October 14, 1950. Max was drafted in the United States Army. He was stationed in Germany during the Korean Conflict. Following Maxs honorable discharge the couple returned to Marion, where they lived for many years and eventually moved to Stanwood. Max worked as a mechanic and at the age of 36 he returned to school. He received a teaching certificate from Ferris State University where he was immediately hired. While employed at FSU Max completed his masters degree at Central Michigan University. He also pastored a small town church in Stanwood, where the members became as close as his own family. Max loved reading the Bible and was deeply faithful to God. He is survived by his children; Vern M. Lee of Sparta, Kathy E. (Ron) Bush of Howell, Brenda J. (Duane) Compton of Sherman, TX, Gail R. (Chris) Morris of Belton, MO, Curtis O. Lee of Sparta; a sister, Vivian Jean Reed of Lake Orion; two brothers, Don (Phyllis) Lee of Midland, Dean (Mary) Lee of Falmouth; 14 grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Max was recently preceded in death by his wife, Elaine M. Lee on June 30, 2022; his parents; a daughter and son-in-law Terry V. (Dave) Bowmaster and granddaughter, Merredith Bowmaster. A private family service will take place. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Maxs memory may do so to the charity of their choice.
