Mary Sutherlund, 74, of Big Rapids, passed away on Saturday, February 22, 2025. She was born on July 17, 1950, in Reed City, the daughter of Roy and Viola (Mervyn) Sutherlund.

Mary began her working life at Wolverine and pursued several careers before retiring from Kmart. She had a passion for arts and crafts, enjoying crocheting, cross-stitching, beadwork, and many other creative hobbies. She took great pride in her work, often gifting her handmade pieces—especially her cherished angels—to family and friends, where they remain treasured keepsakes.

A devoted member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Big Rapids, Mary found great joy in participating in services, including reading scripture and sharing her love of God. She was an avid reader and book collector, always eager to share her favorite stories with loved ones.

Mary is survived by her niece and four nephews; her cousin, Carol Pratt; and her devoted caretakers, Phyllis and Jim Lindsey and Betty Bakham. She also leaves behind many friends and extended family members who supported and cared for her over the years.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings, David Sutherlund, Donna (Leonard) Rolston, and Richard (Beverly) Sutherlund.

At this time, cremation has taken place, and memorial services may be held at a later date. Inurnment will take place at Brookside Cemetery in West Branch, where she will be laid to rest beside her parents.

Memorial contributions may be made to assist with final expenses or to Immanuel Lutheran Church in Big Rapids.
