Mary M. Roe, age 86 of Morley, passed away peacefully at her home Saturday, October 25, 2008. She was born November 9, 1921 near Fairview, MI to Fred and Lizzy (Reber) Kauffman. She married Fred Roe on August 17, 1940 in Curtisville and together they made their home in Detroit. In 1944 Fred was inducted into the United States Army and sent to Europe during World War II. Mary stayed home and contributed to the war effort by working at Chrysler's as a riveter. Following the service the young couple moved to South Branch, Oxford, Grandville, TN and in 1981 moved to Morley to make their home. Mary was active in her community. She was a member of the Deerfield Bible Church, the Morley Senior Center and she volunteered for the Mecosta County R.S.V.P. Program. Mary will be remembered as a wonderful cook, a good and dear friend and a loving mother. She is survived by 2 sons, Edward (Lucy) Roe of Clarkston and Robert (Sandra) Roe of Morley, 10 grandchildren, 17 Great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren, a brother Chuck (Peggy) Kauffman of Ohio, 2 sisters, Adeline Peachy of Ohio and Vera Shea of Mio and many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents Mary was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Fred Roe on July 3, 2002, a grandson, Frederick M. Roe, 2 brothers, Don and Walt and 2 sisters, Eleanor and Ruby. Funeral services will take place 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 29th at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids with Pastor Ron Wynn officiating. The family will greet friends on Tuesday at the funeral home from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Burial will be at Aetna Township Cemetery in Morley. Memorial contributions in Mary's name can be made to the Deerfield Bible Church.
