Mary A. Peffer, age 83 of Big Rapids, passed away Wednesday, May 24, 2017. She was born on New Years Eve in 1933 and was raised in Marne. Mary was the daughter of Nicholas and Anna (Fleming) Mergener. She graduated from Coopersville High School. Mary married Jackie Peffer on June 16, 1956 in Marne and together they raised their family in the country outside of Ashton. She was a foster grandparent for many years. Mary had numerous interests; including, crafting, sewing, barbequing, bird watching, traveling, playing bingo, and going to the casino. She is survived by her three children, Teresa (William) Fogel of Hersey, Nicholas (Mary) Peffer of Ashton, and Diana Peffer Johnson of DeKalb, Illinois; son-in-law, Paul Gregg of Woodstock, Illinois; six grandchildren, Joshua, Jaclyn, Nicholas II (Heather), Jason (Katie), Lynette, and Jeremiah; seven great-grandchildren, Natalie, Avery, Mackenzie, Delanie, Gage, Isak, and Ella; brother, Donald (Esther) Mergener; sister-in-law, Bev Mergener; and many nieces and nephews. Mary was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jackie in 1983; two daughters, Annette Peffer and Sandra Gregg; siblings, Ethelyn (Al) Grochowalski, Leo "Bud" (Eileen) Mergener, and Donna "Jean" (Eual) Drake. Mass of Christian Burial will take place 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 27, 2017 at St. Paul Campus Parish in Big Rapids, where she was a member, with Father Michael Burt officiating. The family will greet friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, May 26, 2017 at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids with a Rosary being prayed at 7:30 p.m. She will be laid to rest at Ashton Cemetery in Lincoln Township, Osceola County.
