Mary Grace Wilson Lyonnais peacefully passed away Wednesday, November 15, 2023 surrounded by her loving husband and family in Big Rapids. Mary was born in Grand Rapids, to Mary McBride and Douglas Wilson. Mary loved both her parents and was also fortunate to have a loving stepfather, Al Yemc.
Mary spent her childhood in Grand Haven and graduated from Grand Haven High School. She met her husband Francis "Frank" Lyonnais when she was 19 years old and they were married four months later. The two of them raised five children in Muskegon later settling in Detroit. They were married for an incredible 71 years!
When the children were on their own, Mary & Frank retired and moved to Canadian Lakes. It was the lake house dream for them. They regularly welcomed their family and friends, making many long-lasting memories for 33 years.
Mary led a joyous life making everyone feel at home and loved. She cherished her family and friends. Mary never forgot family birthdays always putting money in every card, it was her thing. She was a wonderful seamstress, decorator, sang in the Canadian Lakes Choir, and loved movies. Mary and Frank enjoyed rides on the pontoon in the summer, they loved camping, playing cards, and hosting parties for their nearest and dearest. They also enjoyed driving to Florida for the winters, stopping to see friends and family along the way. Mary and Frank loved to travel, especially with sister Bonnie and her husband Vic. The four of them traveled throughout Michigan, Ireland, and Europe. Creating unforgettable memories and even more entertaining the stories they told!
Mary also had a passion for the Detroit Tigers and Notre Dame Football like no other. She would do anything to not miss her games, wearing a jersey for the Tigers games and wrapping up in a Notre Dame flag for ND games. The cheers, GO TIGERS and GO IRISH will be a little less whole without her. Slainte until we meet again.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Bonnie (Vic) McFadden, Sandra (Mike) Leuth, brother-in-law, Doug DeVries, daughter in law, Debra Lyonnais and sweet loving grandson, Alex Francis Lyonnais.
Mary is survived by her beloved husband, Francis "Frank" Lyonnais; children, Bradley (Mary Lynne), Michael (Linda), Laura (James), Daniel (Hannah), David (Lisa); grandchildren, Renee (Aaron), Joey, Christopher (Melanie), Lisa (Dan), Bryan, Andrew, Robert (Drake), Alicia (Ben), Nick (Julia), Cydney (Kenny), Kelsey (Remy), Kirstin, Chase, Hailey, Hunter, and Hudson; great-grandchildren, Oliver, Lila, Laken, Jacob, Owen, Dylan, Gabe, Charlotte, Henley, Charley, Jackson, and Dominick; sister, Pamela DeVries.
