Obituary

Mary L. Gekiere, age 89 of Morley, passed away unexpectedly Monday, April 9, 2018 at her home. She was born July 22, 1928 in Sterling, Michigan the daughter of Maurice and Irma (VanDeVyvere) Sucaet. Mary was a member of St. Mary-St. Paul Catholic Church in Big Rapids, the Croton American Legion #6812 Auxiliary and the Red Hat Society. She enjoyed cooking and baking. Mary is survived by three sons, Ronald (Sandy) Gekiere of Clay, Tom (Wendy) Gekiere of Macomb, Louie (Bonnie) Gekiere of Chesterfield; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren with one on the way; a sister, Dorothy Dhondt and many nieces and nephews. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Albert in 1996 and a sister, Irene. The family will greet friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 11, 2018 at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids. Mary will be instate at 9:30 a.m. until Mass at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 14, 2018 at St. Mary Queen of Creation in New Baltimore. The family will greet friends from 2:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, April 13th at Gendernalik Funeral Home in New Baltimore. Mary will be laid to rest at Aetna Township Cemetery in Morley.
