Mary J. Fifield, age 71 of Barryton, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, September 26, 2009. She was born April 12, 1938 in Okemos to Elmer and Letha (Wright) Donaldson. On June 5, 1961 she married Alden "Gene" Fifield and they made their home in Barryton. Mary and her daughter Letha were the first mother/daughter duo to get their diplomas through Chippewa Hills Adult Ed. Mary was a kind mother and a good cook. For several years she was the cook at Northern Trails Restaurant in Barryton. She adored her dog Gizmo and loved her cats especially Tiger Cat. Anyone who knows Mary knows how much she enjoyed playing BINGO at home or at the hall. Mary always tried to put her family first and cherished the time she had with them. She was compassionate and it broke her heart to loose her beloved Gene and dear friend Ellen Sanger. Her family will truly miss her and the love and support she provided. Mary is survived by her loving Daughter Letha (Bernerd "Pete" ) Myers of Lake, three grand daughters: June (Mark Yeager), Jamie (Danny Freedon) Myers and Jennifer (Troy) Shull, six great-grandchildren: Joshua, Jordan, Aaron, Jonathan, Faith and Amanda, three brothers-in-law: Dewane Fifield, Bud (Dora) Fifield and Ray Reynolds, sister-in-law Janet Nicholas and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Gene on December 16, 2007 and 12 brothers and sisters. Funeral services for Mary will be held 1:00 p.m., Thursday, October 1st at the Flake Cemetery (20th Avenue) in Barryton. Memorial donations in Mary's name will go towards services.
