Marlene J. "Maude" Luce, age 77 of Big Rapids, formerly of Paris, MI, passed away Sunday, November 7, 2010. She was born March 17, 1933 in Grant Township, Mecosta County, the only daughter of Floyd and Beatrice (Hamilton) Gilbert. Marlene graduated from Big Rapids High School in 1951. She married Clifford Luce and they moved to Grand Rapids where they raised their family. In 1972 Marlene moved back to Paris. Marlene was known by many area residents through her job as a waitress at the Paris Bar. Later in life Marlene moved to Big Rapids to make her home. She was a very dedicated and active volunteer for the Mecosta County Recycle. One of Marlene's most memorable moments was her public acknowledgement as the One Millionth rider on the Big Rapids Dial-a-ride. Marlene never drove, so the highlight of her week was the Saturday rides with her daughter Pat and the many yard sales they would find. She also loved to garden, read, play bingo and work crossword puzzles. Marlene is survived by her 4 children; Delores (Gary) Moss of Paris, Patricia (John) VanWagner of Paris, Susan (Ken) Page of Rockford, Michael (Betty) Luce of Sand Lake; 13 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Besides her parents, Marlene was preceded in death by 4 brothers; Harold, James, Bernard and Ronald Gilbert. A memorial luncheon for family and friends will take place 1:00 p.m. Friday, November 12th at the Green Charter Township Hall, 21431 Northland Drive in Paris.
