Marlene J. Getts, age 75 of Big Rapids, passed away Sunday, February 16, 2014 at her home. She was born on June 28, 1938 in Harbor Springs, the daughter of Claude and Mary (Hall) Knapp. Marlene married Carl W. Getts on July 3, 1956 and together they made their home in Big Rapids. For several years she worked as a caretaker in the Big Rapids area. Marlene enjoyed listening to country music and she loved her family gatherings. Marlene is survived by her husband of 58 years, Carl Getts of Big Rapids; three children, John (Linda) Getts, Terry (Diane) Getts and Phyllis Taylor all of Big Rapids; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Harry (Janet) Knapp and Bud (Shirley) Knapp; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her son-in-law, Richard Taylor; sister-in-law, Barb Knapp. A memorial service will take place 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids with Bill Routley officiating. The family will greet friends from 12:00 (noon) until the time of services at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made in Marlene's name to Hospice of Michigan or the American Cancer Society.
