Obituary

Marjorie A. Mondrella, age 85 of Big Rapids, passed away Wednesday, April 17, 2013. She was born December 23, 1927 in Big Rapids the daughter of George and Fay (Sampson) Nash. Marjorie graduated from Big Rapids High School where she was proud to have earned the honor of being the High School Band Majorette. She married Bud Mondrella on August 3, 1946 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Big Rapids. They lived in Grand Rapids for 10 years until moving back to Big Rapids in 1955. Bud established, owned and operated Mondrella's Meat Market in Big Rapids; Marjorie helped Bud until taking a position at Ferris State University in the Admissions Department where she worked until her retirement. Marjorie was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Eagles Aerie #2535 and AmVets Post #1941 all of Big Rapids. She enjoyed bowling, continuing in a league until the age of 80. Marjorie swam every chance she got, at both FSU and the Holiday Inn and was a great Euchre player. She had mastered the lost art of Tatting which she shared and taught to those who were interested. She will forever be missed by her loving family including her husband of 66 years, Bud Mondrella; three children, John (Pat) Mondrella of Rodney, David (Chris) Mondrella of Paris, Marsha (Eric) Ballard of Lansing; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; a sister, Thelma Scholfield of Florida and many nieces and nephews. Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents; two grandsons, Ben Mondrella and Tyler Mondrella; a sister, Doris Horning; four brothers, Jerome, Arleigh "Bud" , Robert and LeRoy Nash. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 22, 2013 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Big Rapids with Father Lam T. Le officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Carmel Cemetery. The family will greet friends, Sunday, April 21st at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids from, 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a Rosary being prayed at 7:30 that evening. The family will also greet friends on Monday at the church one hour prior to Mass. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Michigan or St. Vincent dePaul.
