Obituary

Marjorie L. Horstman, age 83 of Barryton, passed away Sunday, May 22, 2022. She was born in Portland, Michigan on July 11, 1938, the daughter of William and Mildred (Fox) Franks. Marjorie was raised in Haslett, where she married the love of her life Gerald "Jerry" Horstman on March 25, 1955. During the beginning of their marriage Jerry was stationed in Germany with the United States Army and Marjorie joined him shortly after for over two years. They moved back to Michigan and resided in Mulliken and Weidman before making their permanent home in Barryton for the last 59 years. Marjorie was employed with Isabella Bank, formerly Old Kent, for 25 years as a custodian until she retired. She was a dedicated member of the Barryton Rebekahs. Marjorie was known for her happy personality. She liked to talk; Marjorie "never met a stranger" because she became friends with everyone. Marjorie had many talents; she could teach and play the piano, coached and played basketball, and she could grow a beautiful flower garden. Marjorie enjoyed camping, baking pies with her granddaughters and great-granddaughters, and going to the casino. She looked forward to traveling, sight-seeing, and color tours. You could always find Marjorie and Jerry hosting the kids games at the Lilac Festival and Barryton Days. They also founded the Barryton Special Kids group in the 1980s, which they organized and ran for many years. Marjorie will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Jerry of Barryton; four sons, Jerry Jr. (Lois) of Hersey, Mark (Tammy) of Perry, Tim of Barryton, and Kevin of Reed City; two daughters, Christina (T.J.) Tozer of Lowell and Stacy (Donald) Dennis of Barryton; 31 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren with three on the way; four great-great-grandchildren; Tom (Sharon) Bouck and many other nieces and nephews; and her dog Peanuts. Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents, two daughters-in-law Pamela and Shawn Horstman, and five siblings. A celebration of life will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Saturday, June 4, 2022 at the Fork Township Community Center. Arrangements and care entrusted to Daggett Funeral Home in Barryton.
