Obituary

On Friday, November 18, 2016, we lost an amazing woman, Marjorie Hall of Big Rapids, who was the center of our family and the hardest working person we knew. She enjoyed life to the fullest and always had a plan for the future. Her family was the most important thing to her and we loved her dearly. We will always miss her energy, determination and sense of humor. Marjorie was born on June 19, 1932 in New London, CT, the daughter of Wells and Elsa (Hanson) Hale. She graduated from Robert E. Fitch High School in Groton, CT in 1950. After high school she worked at the New London Savings Bank and then at the Submarine Base where she met and married her husband David on June 5, 1954. Marjorie joined the Lincoln National Life Insurance Company in 1964 and received her CLU and ChFc designations from the American College at Bryn Mawr, PA. She retired after 34 years in the business. Marjorie was a member of the Third Avenue Methodist Church where she volunteered in the lunch program. She had been a member of the Junior Womens Club and the Zonta Club. She also volunteered in the gift shop at the hospital in Big Rapids. Marjorie enjoyed golfing with her husband Dave and the ladies group at Meceola Country Club/Clear Lake Golf Club (where she had a hole in one). She and David had lots of fun visiting their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and enjoyed the many wonderful trips that they took with them. The Saturday night card parties with their nieces and nephews were lots of fun too. Marjorie is survived by her loving family, husband David and their three children Debra (Steve Howell) Spedowske of Big Rapids, MI, Roxane (Rich) Schulkins of Bloomington, IL and Andrew (Anita) Hall of Geneva, IL. She also had six grandchildren Lacey (Justin) Murray, Casey and Kelley Schulkins, Emily, Christopher and Matthew Hall, great grandchildren Mikayla and Kylie Murray, sister and brothers, June (Dudley) Swedberg of Inver Grove, MN, Lawrence Hale of Mystic, CT, Gary (Susan) Hale of Killingworth, CT, sister-in-law Bonnie (Douglas) Randolph of Spring Arbor, MI and many nieces and nephews. Marjorie was predeceased by her parents and brothers and sisters; Ruth Giddings, Robert Hale, Richard Hale, twins David and Barbara Hale, Pauline Peckham, Betty King and Charles Hale. A memorial service will be held at 12:00 p.m. (Noon) on Wednesday, November 23, 2016 at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home with the family greeting friends one hour prior (11AM to 12 PM). In lieu of flowers donations should be made to the Third Avenue Methodist Church or Hospice of Michigan.
