IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Marjorie Evelyn
Ariss
March 1, 1916 – May 27, 2016
Marjorie Evelyn Ariss, 100 years old, passed away on May 27, 2016, leaving her daughter Mary Kay (Dr. Craig) Bethune, granddaughter Corinne Noelle (Dr. John) Sprague, and her great granddaughter Lydia Marie to cherish the memories of a life well lived. Marjorie was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Raymond in 1996; her parents, Orrie and Rosa Gilbert, and all her siblings and their spouses: Eileen Bishop (Martin), Norris Gilbert (Alice), Donald Gilbert (Mary Margaret), Orrie Gilbert (Florence), Robert Gilbert, Max Gilbert (Barbara), George Gilbert, as well as her mother- and father-in-law, Raymond and Mabel Ariss, and Rays brothers and sisters-in-law, Jack and Ruth Ariss and Ralph and Rita Ariss. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Marjorie was born in Big Rapids March 1, 1916 to Orrie and Rosa Gilbert on the family farm, and remained a Big Rapids resident the majority of her life. Marjorie and Ray were married in 1943 in Rapid City, South Dakota, just before he left to serve during WWII in the European theater. During the war, Marjorie was a cosmetologist in Big Rapids, and upon Rays return after the war, they became long time owners of the Big Rapids Dairy Queen until their retirement in 1971. Both before and after retirement, Marjorie was a tireless volunteer for the United Church, a member of numerous bridge clubs, sewing clubs, and the neighborhood Koffee Klatch. She adored her violets and roses and making bread for her neighbors and friends. She was a generous and kind friend to all who knew her, and will be greatly missed by all who remember their wonderful times together. The family would like to thank the caregivers at Sentinel Pointe Retirement Community and Holland Home Fulton Manor for their wonderful compassion and care for Marjorie.
A service of remembrance will be held 2:30 p.m. at Sentinel Pointe in Grand Rapids on Sunday, June 12, 2016. In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to Faith Hospice, of Grand Rapids.
Arrangements and care entrusted to the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids.
