Marion R. Motry, age 93 of Big Rapids, passed away Saturday, May 14, 2016 at her home. She was born January 6, 1923 in Cloquet, Minnesota, the ninth child of Ben and Cevilla (McMahon) Bell. Marion was a graduate of South Haven High School. She married Hubert L. "Bud" Motry in 1944. They moved to Big Rapids when Bud accepted a position at Ferris State College and called it home for over 50 years. Marion earned a Masters Degree from Ferris State University. She taught at Chippewa Hills High School until her retirement. Marion was a member of the Mecosta County Historical Society. She is survived by a niece, Dorothy "Dot" (Bill) VanRyswyk of St. Joseph, MI; dear friends, Ella and Irene Villa of Stanwood; caregivers, Jennifer Sevarns of Remus, all the staff of Jenni Lynns Home Services and several nieces and nephews. Marion was preceded in death by her parents; husband Bud on April 8, 2008; and eight brothers and sisters. Funeral services will take place 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 18th at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids with Pastor Bruce Peterson officiating. The family will greet friends at the funeral home one hour prior to services on Wednesday. Burial will be at Lakeview Cemetery in South Haven.
