Obituary

Marilyn Joan Dodge, 93, of Chippewa Lake, passed away peacefully with her daughters at her side on September 20, 2025. She was born May 22, 1932, to Leo Mack and Frances (O'Connell) Mack in Detroit.

Marilyn married Harry Dodge on July 7, 1951. They lived in three different homes built by Harry on Chippewa Lake before moving to a farm a half mile south of the lake in 1964 with their two daughters. Later Harry built another home on that property, where they lived out the remaining days of their 63-year marriage.

From 1973 to 1992, Marilyn worked at Evart Products. In her leisure time she enjoyed reading, working puzzles, cooking and baking, gardening, and feeding and watching birds and backyard wildlife. She especially enjoyed family get-togethers, her grandchildren's school programs, and vacations in the Upper Peninsula, where she spent summers with her grandparents as a child. She spent many hours sewing clothing for herself and her daughters and making pillows, angel ornaments, and other crafts.

Marilyn was a member of the Country Janes Extension Club and the Chippewa Lake Birthday Club. She worked on the Chippewa Township election board for a number of years. She was also a member of Chippewa Lake Community Church and taught Sunday school and vacation Bible school in her younger days.

Surviving are daughters Dawn (Joe) Kretoski of Evart and Laura (Mark) Weller of Chippewa Lake; grandchildren Betsy (Ben) Covert, Aaron (Jennifer) Weller, Lauren (Clifton) Schneider, and Joey (Jessica) Kretoski; and great-grandchildren Evan and Caiden Covert, Renanah, Kavveh, and Shifra Weller, Dove and Bobbi Rose Schneider, and Landon, Chase, Rylie, and Selah Kretoski. Preceding Marilyn in death was her husband Harry in 2015.

Marilyn's family wishes to thank the staff of Corewell Health Hospice and the many friends who cared for her in her last days.

Funeral services will take place at noon on Saturday, September 27, at the Chippewa Lake Community Church with Pastor Joey Kretoski officiating. Visitation will take place at the church from 10:30 until service time. A meal will be served at the church following burial at the Chippewa Township Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Marilyn's name may be made to Mid-Michigan Honor Flight (midmichiganhonorflight.org) or the charity of one's choice.
