Marilyn (MacKersie) Delong, age 82, passed away Saturday, June 29, 2024 at The Brook of Big Rapids. She was born on February 14, 1942 in Lakeview, the daughter of Harland and Adeline (Benjamin) MacKersie. She graduated from Barryton High School in 1960 and went on to cosmetology school to become a hairdresser. Marilyn owned Woodland Hair salon for many years. She was a longtime member of Faith United Methodist Church in Barryton where she was the treasurer and enjoyed playing bells. Marilyn had a passion for gardening. She would often have seeding flats throughout the house in the spring to start her vegetable and flower gardens from scratch. She enjoyed sewing clothes for herself and eventually her grandchildren. Marilyn was an avid reader and loved to watch and feed her birds. She could go through 50 lbs. of bird feed in a week. Marilyn always hosted the big holiday meals for her family. She loved to cook and bake for everyone. Marilyn always cherished the time she could spend with her family. She will be missed by many. She is survived by her children, Jeffrey (Debra) Tyson of Paris, Craig Tyson of Reed City; grandchildren, Alexis, Carly, Taylor, Quinn, Colton; four great-grandchildren; brothers, Blaine MacKersie, Bryce (Deb) MacKersie, Kent (Becky) MacKersie, Mitchell (Sandy) MacKersie; and several nieces and nephews. Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Carl Delong; son, Scott Tyson; and sister-in-law, Gloria MacKersie. Funeral Service will be held 1:00 p.m., Wednesday July, 3, 2024 at Daggett Funeral Home in Barryton with visitation an hour prior. She will be laid to rest at Flake Cemetery.
