Marie Edith Gatehouse, 89 of Barryton, unexpectedly went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 19, 2017. She was born Edith Marie on April 20, 1927 in Detroit, MI to Fred Weber and Amelia Minkel. Marie graduated from Remus High School in 1945. She retired from Wolverine World Wide Plant B in Big Rapids where she was a skiver for many years. She was the matriarch of her family and one of the matriarchs at New Hope U.M.C. in Mecosta where she looked forward to the Wednesday night meal and fellowship with friends on Sunday. Marie liked to stay busy with crocheting projects, making "mug rug" coasters, and baking bread and other baked goods. Marie was generous and caring. She is survived by her loving family which includes: three daughters, Mary (Terry) Batchelder of Saranac, Alice Green and Ruth Humphrey both of Barryton; four siblings, Elaine Spitzley, Delores Clark, Clayton Korytkowski and Archie Korytkowski; nine grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren and her cat Mr. Whiskers. Marie was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Amelia; three husbands, Virgil Gatehouse, Wm. Jack Humphrey and Norman D. Mathewson; her grand-daughter, Denise Hyder and two great-grandchildren, Meshia and Albert James "AJ". A celebration of Maries life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 25, 2017 at New Hope United Methodist Church (7296 9 Mile Rd., Mecosta) with the family greeting friends one hour prior from Noon until 1PM. Memorial donations can be made to New Hope. Arrangements were entrusted to the Daggett Funeral Home in Barryton.
