Margaret E. Slocum, age 91 of Rodney, passed away Sunday, November 15, 2015 at her home. She was born June 27, 1924 in Stanton on the family farm to Carl and Welcome (Ellsworth) Drake. Margaret graduated from high school in Stanton. She married Kenneth R. Slocum on February 14, 1946; together they made their home throughout the state of Michigan. Ken's career was in sales and Margaret was a home maker caring for her family. In 1976 they settled in Mecosta to live permanently. She was a member of the Mecosta VFW Auxiliary Post 2335, Mecosta Lion's Club, and God's Helping Hands in Remus. Margaret was a member of the Chippewa Lake Community Church. She had an excellent sense of humor. Margaret enjoyed helping people, cooking, and crafting. She loved her family and spending time with them. She is survived by her 3 children, Ken (Cindy) Slocum of Nevada, Karol Klinger of Rodney, Kate (John) Scheer of Lake Isabella; a granddaughter, Nicki (Jim); three grandsons, Joshua (Jodi), Anthony, and Sidney (Afton); eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; husband Kenneth Slocum on July 27, 1997; three brothers, Rod, William, and Bud Drake; a sister, Ann Alexander; and a son-in-law, Bud Klinger. A memorial service will take place 11:00 a.m. Thursday, November 19, 2015 at the Chippewa Lake Community Church with Pastor Roger Bennett officiating. The family will greet friends at 10:00 a.m. prior to the service on Thursday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made in Margaret's name to God's Helping Hands in Remus.
