Mae Josephine Dexter, passed away at Reed City Spectrum Nursing Skill Facility on Friday, June 12, 2009. Mae was 89 and was born on August 17, 1919 to Menton and Hazel (Sales) Mesler in Grand Rapids. Mae was preceded in death by her loving husband, George Dexter 26 years ago and her 2 sisters, Margaret and Betty. Mae is survived by her family, William and Vicky Dexter of Rodney, who lovingly cared for Mae in her elder years and her nieces, Tammy Flower of Dover, PA, Barbie Drayton if Big Rapids, Misty Trask of Edwards, CA and a nephew, Troy Dexter of Kingsley, MI. Mae never had children of her own, but loved her nieces and nephew as if they were hers. Mae enjoyed and was a member of the Wheatland Church of Christ in Remus. She was a woman of the Lord. She also loved her friends at TOPS 1189 in Big Rapids and was a member of the club for many years. She loved to plant flowers, sunflowers being one of her favorites. She adored music and Liberace. Mae was creative, loved to sew, do craft work and she had a spunky, yet gentle spirit. Funeral services for Mae will take place 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 16, 2009 at the Daggett Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids. The family will greet friends on Monday evening (today) from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow the funeral service at Martiny Township Cemetery in Rodney. A luncheon is being served at the Martiny Township Hall after the graveside service. Memorial contributions in Mae's memory may be left at the funeral home.
