Madeline Lucille Hanford, age 94, formerly of Barryton, passed away on Friday, December 8, 2017 at the Fields Assisted Living in Reed City, where she resided. She was born on September 29, 1923 in Dimondale, MI to John Francis and Agnes (Bates) Connick. On November 18, 1942 Madeline married Torrence "Ted" Hanford in Bryon, OH. They made their home in the Lansing area before retiring to Barryton.
Ted and Madeline traveled throughout the country on motorcycle in the 40s. The children and grandchildren have many good memories of trips taken with them. They also enjoyed seeing London, Scotland and Ireland with family. In her younger years she supported her childrens and grandchildrens events, was a former Girl Scout leader and member of the American Motorcycle Association. She was an avid bowler for over thirty years both in Lansing and Remus. Madeline remained active into her 80s by walking on the treadmill. Madeline enjoyed making ceramics, cement lawn decorations, gardening, loved animals, and was known for making the best fudge. Madeline also had several extensive collections of various things. The last 20 years she was heavily into genealogy and recording it for the family.
Madeline is the beloved mother of Patty (Denver) Heffron of Big Rapids and Phil (Sandy) Hanford of Big Rapids. She is also survived by six grandchildren: Jan (Mike) Moody of Big Rapids, April (Larry) Matthews of Colorado, Matthew (Dana) Harshbarger of Virginia, Terri Lynn (Neal) Platt of Texas, John (Barb) Hanford of Texas, Jeff (Jennifer) Hanford of CA; 15 great grandchildren, 19 great-great-grandchildren with one on the way, many nieces, nephews and friends Les and Linda Cramer.She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 68 years, Ted in 2011; siblings, Margarite Bentley, LaVerne Connick, Richard Connick and Nancy Gillespie.The family will greet friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, December 15th at the Daggett Funeral Home in Barryton. Funeral services will be held 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 16, 2017 at the funeral home with visitation one hour prior. Interment will be at Brown Cemetery in Barryton.Memorial donations in Madelines name can be made to the Mecosta County Animal Rescue Coalition or Spectrum Health Hospice.
