Macilee Burke, age 85 of Hersey, passed away Monday, March 6, 2023 at Autumnwood of McBain. She was born in Bevinsville, Kentucky on July 12, 1937, the daughter of the late Edward and Melvina (Gibson) Isaac. When Macilee was in 11th grade, her family moved to Detroit and she began working in her family restaurant as well as the Cinderella Theatre. She met Teddy Burke after he moved to Detroit to work and they married on April 11, 1955. Together they made their home and raised their family in Melvindale and then moved to Taylor. Macilee and Teddy were active members at Wick Road Baptist Church. Macilee was employed by Sears for many years in Lincoln Park and later she became a caretaker in Allen Park for a long-term care facility. After Teddy retired in 1987, he and Macilee moved to their home they purchased in 1978 in Hersey. She liked to stay busy and took a job as a janitor with the Reed City Area Public Schools. Macilee had many talents. She enjoyed cooking and canning, sewing and embroidery, reading, and playing cards. Macilee collected roosters and looked forward to feeding the birds in their beautiful yard. She loved her family and spending time with them. Macilee is survived by her son, Harold "Doug" Burke of Livonia; six grandchildren, Jenny Burke of Big Rapids, Julie Aguirre of Taylor, Jessica (Ben) Richards of Southgate, Teddy Thrushman of Hersey, James (Jessica) Burke of Livonia, and Jeffrey Burke of Big Rapids; four great-grandchildren, LeAnna and Jaelin Richards of Southgate, and Jonathon and Joseph Burke of Livonia; two siblings, Margie Stanley of Melvindale and Eulis Isaac of Tennessee; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Teddy Burke, two daughters Yolanda "Lenny" Burke and Jeanine Burke, and two siblings Faye Hart and Elmita Porter. A Memorial Service will take place 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 18, 2023, at Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids with Pastor Ron Witbeck officiating. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the Funeral Home on Saturday.
