Obituary

Luella J. Potter age 75 of Barryton, passed away Friday, June 26, 2009 at the Hospice House in Mt. Pleasant due to kidney failure. Luella was born at home in Barryton on November 9, 1933 to Henry J. and Agnes E. (Earle) Westra. Luella graduated from Barryton Rural Agricultural High School in 1953. On January 7, 1956 she married Harmon E. Potter and they made their home in Battle Creek before moving to Urbandale where they raised their family. Luella couldn't have children of her own which led the Potter's to have 36 foster children throughout the years. Her love for children also showed through her work as a social worker in Calhoun County for several years until she had health problems. Besides Luella's fascination with children she was an avid seamstress, good cook and wonderful homemaker. Luella was a lifelong member of the Barryton Church of Christ. In 1988 Harmon and Luella moved back to "the cottage" on Diamond Lake where they have resided ever since. Luella is survived by her loving husband of 53 years Harmon of Barryton, Two adopted sons: John (Debbie) of Marshall and their five children, Scott (Tamara) Burbank of Louisville, KY and their 3 children, one brother Wayne Westra of Detroit and several nieces, nephews and friends. Luella was preceded in death by her father Henry, mother Agnes in 2006, sisters Patricia Potter on Jan. 7, 2007 and Juanita Ballard on Mar. 18, 2009. Cremation has taken place and a private burial will take place at Flake Cemetery in Barryton. Arrangements were entrusted to Daggett Funeral Home in Barryton.
