Lucille H. Torrey, age 97 of Mecosta, passed away Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at her daughter's home in Mecosta. She was born in Lake Odessa, on September 7, 1914 the daughter of Daniel and Eva (Aungst) Austin. She married Charles C. Torrey in 1934 and together they had three children. Lucille attended County Normal where she obtained a teaching certificate. She taught school in the country schools around the area prior to teaching elementary at Mecosta Elementary. Lucille retired from teaching in the early 60's and was a co-owner, with her husband Charlie, of Torrey's Resort on Pretty Lake from 1953 until 1989. Lucille and Charlie looked forward to wintering in Florida until 2000 and enjoyed traveling. When Lucille was able she attended the Chippewa Hills Baptist Church of Remus. Lucille is survived by three loving children: Charleen (Larry) Milligan of Grand Ledge, Conwell (Georgie) Torrey of Mecosta and Carolyn Rorick of Mecosta, one sister Beulah Daniels of Lake Odessa, fourteen Grandchildren, numerous Great-grandchildren, Great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Lucille was preceded in death by her parents, husband Charles in 2003. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 7, 2012 at the Daggett Funeral Home in Barryton with Pastor Charles Richardson officiating. Interment will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Mecosta. The family will greet friends on Friday from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. It is the family's request that memorial contributions in Lucille's name be made to the Chippewa Hills Baptist Church.
