Loren A. Stiles, age 85 of Big Rapids, went to be with his Heavenly Father, Friday, August 21, 2009 at his home. He was born May 11, 1924 in Coopersville to Milan and Avice (Buck) Stiles. Loren was honorably discharged from the United States Army serving during World War II in the European, African and Middle Eastern Theaters. He worked as a mechanic for J. C. Waddell's Automotive Sales in Big Rapids for 21 years. Loren then established Stiles Garage, next to his home in Big Rapids, where he worked until his retirement. He was a member of American Legion Post #554 of Morley and a faithful member of the Trinity Fellowship Evangelical Free Church of Big Rapids for over 20 years. Loren and his wife Iola were foster parents for many years; they shared their home, their family and especially their love with 63 children. He will be forever missed and always remembered by his loving family whose members include; his beloved wife of 42 years, Iola; Children, Linda (James Sparks) Graham of Florida, Diane (Michael) Wise of Florida, Steve (Sharon) Settlemyre of Cedar Springs, James (Joan) Settlemyre of Lansing, Andria (Ron) Merritt of Farwell, Marshall Enyart of California, Jan (Connie) Settlemyre of Zeeland, Walter (Carol) Enyart of Lakeview, Kelly (Jim) Bouman of Paris, Kevyn (Becky) Enyart of Tennessee, Daryn (Tina) Stiles of Chippewa Lake, Mari (Sam) Dwyer of Big Rapids, Jaremy (Christa) Stiles of Big Rapids, Jamie (Michael) Hamilton of Big Rapids; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a brother, Norman (Sharon) Stiles of Grand Rapids and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Loren was preceded in death by 3 sons, Jerry, Gerry and Jeffrey Settlemyre, a daughter, Marlene Settlemyre and 4 brothers, Jack, Gene, Roy and Bill Stiles. Funeral services will take place 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 25th at the Trinity Fellowship Evangelical Free Church in Big Rapids with Pastor Gregg Shewan and Elder Bill Routley officiating. Burial will be at Pine Plains Cemetery in Big Rapids with military honors under the auspices of American Legion Post #98 Firing Squad of Big Rapids. The family will greet friends at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids on Monday, August 24th from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday.
