Loren Edmund Sheffer, age 73 of Big Rapids, passed away at home surrounded by family on Saturday, March 31, 2018. He was born on February 21, 1945 in Detroit, MI to Marcus and Wilma (Davey) Sheffer. A graduate of Owosso High School in 1963, he earned his teaching degree from Ferris State College in 1967. He spent his professional career as a 7th & 8th grade science teacher at Big Rapids Middle School, where he also coached football. After retirement, Loren continued to mentor youth in the community through his volunteer work. An outdoor enthusiast, he loved hunting, fishing and camping. He also enjoyed reading and music, and was a regular attendee at the annual Wheatland Music Festival for decades. Loren will certainly be remembered for his unique sense of humor.

Loren is survived by his daughter Heather (Alan) Krebs; step-sons, Russell "Randy" Reams, Martin "Curt" (Linda) Reams, and Sean (Julie) Reams; granddaughter Haley Krebs; step-grandchildren, Ryan (Brenda) Krebs, Jeffrey Krebs, and Randi, Zachary, Kayla, Tyler, Justin (Dakota) and Korinne Reams. He is also survived by 6 step-great-grandchildren; sisters, Lynne (Jimmy) Palance and Lisa Buff; treasured friends, Dave (Natasha) Siegert, Bill (Bonnie) Olendorf, Russ (Karen) Greenleaf, and Linda Bula; former wife, Diana (Ed) Wetzel; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and close friends whom he loved dearly.

He was preceded in death by his parents Marcus and Wilma; wife, Alice "Daun" Reams; brothers, Lee (Sue) Sheffer and Marc (Janine) Sheffer; brother-in-law, Ron Buff and step-daughter-in-law, Sylvia Reams.

A memorial service will be held at 12:30 pm on Saturday, April 14, 2018 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, located at 726 Fuller Avenue in Big Rapids, with a luncheon following. The family invites you to join them in their tribute to Loren, by wearing your favorite flannel shirt to the service.
