Lois D. Harkins, age 90 of Big Rapids, passed away Saturday, September 15, 2012. She was born June 15, 1922 in Grand Rapids the daughter of Vernon and Bertha (Voet) Hollis. Lois married the love of her life Leon Harkins on July 5, 1942 and they made their home in Grand Rapids until 1945 when Leon formed the Aero Craft Company in St. Charles, MI. They moved their family to Big Rapids in 1970 when Leon founded Michi-Craft Corporation. Lois was a member of the Eastern Stars, Big Rapids Zonta Club and the First United Methodist Church of Big Rapids. She is survived by her four children, Pamela (Patrick) Call of Granger, IN, Lana (Jerry) Dunnigan of Evans, GA, Brett (Victoria) Harkins of Big Rapids, Laura (Robert) Casper of Wilmington, NC; eight grandchildren, Jason, Tara and Brandon Call, Brooke Manting-Long, Zachary and Gabrial Harkins, Shea Lynn and Taran Casper; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Vera Heible of Charleston, SC, Phyllis DeBlouw of California and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents Lois was preceded in death by her beloved husband Leon on March 3, 2002, a grandson, Bradley Mendyk in 2009; two brothers, Gerald and Ronel Hollis and a sister, Esther Dise. Funeral services will take place 2:00 p.m. Thursday, September 20th at the Daggett- Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids with the Reverend Rebecca Morrison officiating. Interment will follow at Highland View Cemetery. The family will greet friends on Wednesday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions in Lois' name may be given to the charity of your choice.
