Lloyd G. Cooley, age 91 of Big Rapids, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, February 28, 2008. He was born in Detroit on October 10, 1916, to Fredrick and Ethel (White) Cooley. Lloyd moved to Big Rapids as a young man and worked at Hanchett Manufacturing. He later worked the oil rigs and farmed. Lloyd bought livestock for packing plants throughout Michigan and Indiana. He was most proud of his job as the Animal Health Inspector for the State of Michigan when the PBB crisis arose. All through his working life Lloyd hauled cattle and horses for many customers; he hauled his last horse on Wednesday, the day before he died. Lloyd is survived by a large and loving family including his wife of over 20 years, Norita; children, Ron (Gloria) Cooley of Big Rapids, Cynda (Roger) Sova of Big Rapids, Yvonne (Jerry) Lay of Anniston, AL, Robert (Kathy) Mathews of Sylva, NC, Sheryl (Dave) Harvey of Wedowee, AL, Nina Bell of Big Rapids, Nathan (Joy) Cook of Rothbury, Clinton (Michelle) Cook of White Cloud and Vaughn (Mollie) Cook of Big Rapids, 21 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, a sister, Faith Schwartz of Morley and many nieces and nephews. Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Esther Cooley; 3 brothers, Melvin Sr., Walter and Joseph Cooley; 3 sisters, Thelma Ayers, Arlene Englund and Ruth Bouman. Funeral services will take place 1:00 p.m. Monday, March 3, 2008, at the Trinity Fellowship Church, 15085 220th Ave., in Big Rapids with Pastor Gary deBock officiating. The family will greet friends on Sunday at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and one hour prior to services at the church on Monday. Spring interment will be at Pine Plains Cemetery in Big Rapids. Memorial contribution may be made to the American Cancer Society.
