Obituary

Linus R. "Mitch" Mitchell, age 81 of Morley, passed away Thursday, February 13, 2014 at his home. He was born December 28, 1932 in Muskegon the son of Edmond and Mary (Schellpffeffer) Mitchell. Mitch was honorably discharged from the United States Navy, serving during the Korean War. He worked as a dental lab Technician in Grand Rapids and later in Big Rapids. He had also worked at Katke Golf Course in Big Rapids for over 10 years. Mitch married the former JoAnn Pike in 1995 and together they made their home in Morley. He attended Christ the King Catholic Church in Howard City and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He loved to hunt and fish and enjoyed bowling and golf. Mitch is survived by his loving wife, JoAnn of Morley; four children, Belinda Mitchell of Louisville, KY, Michelle (Don) Robbins of Waco, KY, Kevin (Sandie) McGrath of Glastonbury, CT, Darcy (Kenn) Vredenburg of Stanwood; five grandchildren Josh McGrath, Briana McGrath, Robin Vredenburg, Kyle Vredenburg, Rhys Robbins; two great-grandchildren, Klayton Vredenburg, Liam McGrath; four sisters, Sister Elaine Mitchell of Grand Rapids, Mary (Francis) Lanciaux of Muskegon, Benita (William) Mikesell of Muskegon, Bernadette (Ralph) Jacobson of Ringwood. IL; many nieces, nephews; his mother-in-law, Alberta Pike of Morley; three sisters-in-law, Evelyn Cloud of St. Clair, MO, Joyce (Gerald) Johnston and Nancy Nichols all of Morley. Mitch was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and four brothers. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 17, 2014 at Christ the King Catholic Church in Howard City with Father James Wyse officiating. The family will greet friends on Sunday, February 16th at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. and from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and one hour prior to Mass on Monday at the Church. Memorial contributions in Mitch's name may be made to Christ the King Catholic Church in Howard City.
