Leona C. Wilton, age 92 of Chippewa Lake, passed away Wednesday, May 7, 2014. She was born January 29, 1922 in Bay City, the daughter of Alexander and Catherine (Jarczynski) Wachowski. On January 28, 1942 Leona married Howard "Doc" Wilton Sr. in Highland Park and together they raised their family in Mt. Pleasant. She was an unpredictable, generous and fun woman that was proud of her Polish heritage. Leona loved being a wife, mother and grandmother and would do anything and everything with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Leona's energetic, hardworking, generous, funny, loving, caring, strong willed, one of a kind personality and presence will truly be missed, never forgotten and forever held in her grandchildren's hearts. She is survived by two children, Sandra (Tom) Keenan of Rapid River and Dave "Allen" Watson of Chippewa Lake; three granddaughters, Christy Keenan of Rapid River, Tracy (Randy) Knoop of Rodney and Terri (Mike) Bogovican of Macomb; three grandsons, Mark (Andrea) Keenan of Appleton, WI, Tom (Anne) Keenan of Hatley, WI and Dan Wilton of Chippewa Lake; nine great-granddaughters, Katie, Kaycee and Kourtney Knoop, Danyelle, Heathar, Jennifer, Lauren, Amber and Rachel Keenan; three great-grandsons, Zach, Ryan and Hunter Heenan; many nieces and nephews. Leona was preceded in death by her husband, Howard "Doc" Wilton Sr. on April 28, 1999; son, Howard "Aloycious" Wilton; 1 great-granddaughter, Stephanie Knoop; 4 brothers and sisters; and her parents. Burial took place at Chippewa Lake Cemetery. In Leona's memory a contribution may be made by doing a simple, meaningful act of kindness or "pay it forward" gesture to anyone in need or to an "abuse/neglect" organization of choice.
