Leon J. Maxwell, age 60 of Big Rapids, passed away Monday, September 5, 2016 at Spectrum Health Meijer Heart Center. He was born July 24, 1956 in Clare, the son of Patrick Sr. and Marcella (Bailey) Maxwell. Leon attended Chippewa Hills High School. He farmed his entire life on the family farm. Leon enjoyed always having a dog, playing bingo, and visiting with his friends. Leon is survived by his four brothers, Patrick II (Marilyn) of Canal Fulton, Ohio, Duane (Sheryl) of Spring Hill, Florida, Eugene (Janice) of Midland, and Randy (Sandra) of Rodney; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and numerous friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister-in-law, Jeanette Maxwell; niece, Sheri Maxwell; and nephew, Patrick Maxwell III. A memorial service will take place Saturday, October 15, 2016 at The Chapel at Hope Township Cemetery, Hope, Michigan. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service (at 10 am) at the cemetery.
