Leola Mae "Granny" Kay, age 88 of Paris, passed away Sunday, March 30, 2008 at Mecosta County Medical Center. She was born April 25, 1919 in Big Rapids the daughter of George and Leona (Workings) Flasher. Leola has worked and lived in the Big Rapids area since the mid 1970's. She loved to travel; accepting any invitation or opportunity offered by family and friends. Leola crocheted every grandchild and great-grandchild their own special blanket. She spent many summers camping in Canada and made many Canadian friends. However, one of her favorite pastimes was trying her luck at the slots. But most of all Leola loved spending every moment she could with her children and grandchildren. Granny will be truly missed, for all of her spunky spirit and sense of humor, by her loving family whose members include her 4 children; Nora (Lyman) Tribe of Big Rapids, Beverly (William) Morneau, Gary (Delores) Moss, Kay (Tom) Story all of Paris. Daughter-in-law; Kristen Moss of Paris, 27 grandchildren, 61 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great-grandchildren. A sister Virginia Shupe of Sun City, AZ, many nieces and nephews and her very dear friend Grandma June Willis of Hawkins. Leola was preceded in death by 2 sons Lewis and Norman Moss, a sister, Alice Chaney, a brother, George Flasher, a grandson; Walter A. Wright and 3 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will take place 2:00 p.m. Thursday, April 3, 2008 at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids. The family will greet friends on Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Burial will be at Pine Plains Cemetery in Big Rapids. Memorial contributions in Leola's name may be made to the Mecosta County Meals on Wheels or Project Starburst.
