Leighton L. Butts, age 83 of Barryton, passed away Saturday, October 22, 2011 in Ionia. He was born on August 17, 1928 to Roy and Velma (Prosser) Butts in Lansing. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army where he served in the Allied Occupation of Japan following WWII. Leighton retired from Melling Forging Co. in Lansing where he was a press operator. Together with his wife Marjorie they purchased their first property in Barryton in 1966. They loved the area and made their home at Lackie's Birch Haven in 1987. Leighton was a former member of the Road Runner Men's Club and enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping and fixing stuff. Leighton is survived by his son Steven (Kathy) Butts of Lake Odessa, nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren whom he always looked forward to seeing, three brothers and their families: James (Sharon) Butts of Remus, Robert (Pat) Butts of Jackson and Clifford (Sharon) Butts of Buffalo, NY. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Marjorie on Nov. 22, 2005, his parents Roy and Velma, two sons David and Michael (Dawn) Butts and one sister Gloria Riply. Funeral Services will take place at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 27, 2011 at the Daggett Funeral Home in Barryton with a committal service at 3:00 p.m. at Deepdale Cemetery in Lansing. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Wednesday, Oct. 26th from 2:00-6:00 p.m.
