Obituary

Lawrence W. Worth Sr., age 85, passed away peacefully, Saturday, June 28, 2014. A lifelong resident of Chippewa Lake, Lawrence was born December 29, 1928 in Big Rapids to Charles and Alice (Fetterley) Worth; he was the oldest of seven sons. Lawrence attended both the Ely and Chippewa Lake country schools. He left school as a young man to work for Harold Engelmann in Chippewa Lake as a truck driver and warehouseman. Lawrence enlisted in the United States Army serving during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant. Lawrence returned from the service and married Dolores "Dee" Baker on July 24, 1953; they were married for 28 years. He worked as a tree trimmer at Consumers Power, for a time, until establishing Worth Septic Service in Chippewa Lake, a business he expended, owned and operated for over 40 years. He officially retired in 2008. Lawrence faithfully served as a volunteer fireman for the Chippewa/Martiny Township fire department for 26 years. He was a member of VFW Post 2335 of Mecosta. Lawrence loved living and working in Chippewa Lake. He was an accomplished fisherman and especially enjoyed fishing on his boat "Sand hauler" in Manistee. He is survived by his two sons; Lawrence William Worth Jr. and his wife Vickie and their two boys, Kyle and Justin; his son, Scott Charles Worth and his fiance Susan Carpenter and Scott's three daughters; Amanda, Randi and Sydney all of Rodney; two brothers, Ed (Nina) Worth and Harold (JoAnn) Worth all of Big Rapids; an uncle, Leonard Worth of Big Rapids; many nieces, nephews and longtime friend, Caroline Woodley of Saint Marys, GA. Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Dee, a daughter, Marsha Lynn and four brothers, Richard, Robert, Raymond and Duane. A memorial service will take place 11:00 a.m. Tuesday July 8, 2014 at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids with Pastor Rebecca Morrison officiating. The family will greet friends on Monday, July 7th from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions in Lawrence's name may be made to the Veterans and Homefront Heroes, Holland Park Project in Big Rapids.
