Remembering Lawrence John McNeil, a proud U.S. Army Vietnam War veteran, 1944-2024.
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Lawrence John McNeil, a man whose kindness, generosity, and unwavering love touched the lives of all who knew him. Larry, 80, of Big Rapids, passed away on November 07, 2024. Larry was a rare soul, whose warmth radiated wherever he went. He had a way of making everyone feel seen, heard, and valued. Whether you were a close family member, a customer at the barbershop, or a random stranger, Larry always offered a smile, a one-liner, a kind word, or a helping hand. His selflessness was unmatched-he gave without expectation and loved without limits. His generosity knew no bounds, often sharing his time, his resources, and his heart with anyone in need.
Born in Traverse City on September 26, 1944, Larry was the son of James and Alice McNeil, who instilled in him the importance of kindness, humility, and community. He was known for his infectious laughter and his ability to make even the hardest of days feel lighter. He spent much of his life enjoying the outdoors hunting and fishing, cutting hair, owning Dans barbershop, but mostly being the absolute best husband, father and grandfather. His belief in the goodness of people and his commitment to making the world a better place were at the core of everything he did. Larrys family was the center of his world. His legacy is one of love, grace, and compassiona reminder that a life, lived with purpose, can make an everlasting impact on the world. Though his physical presence may no longer be with us, Larrys spirit will live on in the countless lives he touched. His kindness was his greatest gift, and in remembering him, we are reminded to carry that same light forward.
