Obituary

Keene, N.H. - Lawrence (Larry) Kelley, 69, passed away Feb.15, 2014, at his home in Keene, New Hampshire. He was born on July 5, 1944, in Big Rapids, eldest child of Milo Benjamin and Violet (Finch) Kelley. Lawrence graduated from Morley Stanwood High School in 1962 and joined the Air Force. When he returned to the US in 1967, after his time with the Air Force, he settled in the San Francisco Bay Area. Lawrence spent the next 43 years driving a taxi cab in San Francisco. In 2010 Lawrence purchased a home in Keene, NH and planned to spend his retirement years there. Lawrence had several hobbies. He was passionate about all of them. He never did anything half way. He was an avid geo-casher. The New York Times did a feature story about him and his more than 60 caches in the Golden Gate Park several years ago. Lawrence was also a passionate collector of Major League Base Ball Memorabilia. He had hundreds of signed balls, bats, jerseys, etc. He would buy, sell and trade these items through his web site. Lawrence also had impressive collections of rare coins and Elvis memorabilia. He raised exotic birds, was a champion horseshoe pitcher, and spent many hours in his flower gardens. He was an Endowment Life Member of the NRA and a defender of our Second Amendment Rights. Lawrence is survived by his daughter, Sandra Kelley, of San Francisco; three brothers, Ronald Kelley and Owen Kelley of Gladstone, Darwin (Terri) Kelley of Morley; and two sisters, Judy (Milton) Benson, of Stanwood and Joyce (Mervin) Maurer, of Newaygo. A memorial gathering for family is planned for the spring with interment at the Fairview Cemetery in Stanwood.
