Lawrence Edward Benson, of Morley, was born on March 3, 1939, to Marshall and Grace Benson. He passed away peacefully on January 24, 2026. Lawrence was the last surviving sibling of nine.

Lawrence was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Howard City, Michigan.

Lawrence met and married the love of his life, Jean M. (Stenberg), and together they were blessed with three children. He is survived by his devoted wife Jean; his children, Nelda (Keith) Young, Gary (Rachael) Benson, and Eilene Edwards; grandchildren, Justin Beemer, Jenna Dovey, Christopher Benson, Noel Jachim, Jesse Benson, Ryan Edwards and Luke Edwards; and nine great-grandchildren.

Lawrence loved being outdoors and keeping busy. As a young man, he worked as a pulpwood and firewood cutter and later as a construction worker. His love of working with wood followed him into retirement, where he spent countless hours in his garage building hunting shacks, wishing wells, and storage crates of all sizes.

Lawrence was always willing to lend a hand—often before anyone even had the chance to ask. If you were building a house or adding on, he was there to help. If a lawn needed mowing, you might come home from work to find it already done. And when all the work was finished, Lawrence could often be found on his fishing boat, enjoying the peace of the water.

Funeral Services will be conducted on Monday February 2, 2026, 11:00 A.M. at Bethel Lutheran Church, Howard City. Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 1, 2026, from 4-7:00 P.M. at Daggett Gilbert Funeral Homes, Big Rapids and on Monday, February 2, 2026, from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service.
