Laurie J. Buckley, age 57 of Morley, passed away Sunday, December 6, 2015 at home with her family by her side. She was born January 26, 1958 in Stanwood, the daughter of Gordon and Kathleen (Jones) Smith. Laurie graduated from Morley Stanwood High School in 1976. She was baptized in the Roman Catholic Church. Laurie married David Buckley on May 3, 1985 at Christ the King Church in Howard City and together they raised their family in their hometown of Morley. Laurie was a proud and dedicated Seabee wife throughout Davids 26 year career with the United States Navy. She retired after 30 years of postal service in 2007. Laurie was actively involved in the St. Mary Catholic School and was the Deerfield Township Trustee. She enjoyed bird watching and gardening. Laurie loved spending time with her family and friends; she will be greatly missed. Laurie is survived by her husband of 30 years, David Buckley of Morley; three children, Kelly, Amanda, and Daniel Buckley all of Morley; mother, Kathleen Smith of Morley; brother, Dennis (Kathie) Smith of Morley; many special nieces and nephews; sisters at heart, Julia Cain, Lisa (Richard) Hoisington, Brenda (Scott) Sukstas, Naoma (Mark) Scharlow, and their families; family friends, Dan Cain, Peter III (Helen) Cain, and Brenda (Gary) Lambrix, and their families; as well as many extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Gordon Russell Smith; Normagene Totten, and Peter Cain Jr. A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 29, 2016 at Christ the King Catholic Church in Howard City with Father Lam T. Le and Deacon Rick Dubridge officiating. The family will greet friends 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a Rosary and Vigil beginning at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, January 28th at the Church.Memorial contributions may be made in Lauries name to the St. Mary Catholic School in Big Rapids; envelopes are available at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids.
