Laurence J. Jensen D.D.S., age 82 of Davenport, Iowa, formerly of Big Rapids, passed away Thursday, October 30, 2008. He was born January 30, 1926 in Grant, MI the son of Jens and Iva Marie (Chaney) Jensen. He was honorably discharged from the United States Army Air Corps, serving during World War II. He married Ardath L. Ryefield on April 17, 1949 in Muskegon. Larry graduated from the University Of Detroit School Of Dentistry in 1954. He came to Big Rapids and established his own practice in the VanAuken medical building. He later established J.,S.,& A. dental, retiring in 1998. During his career, Dr. Jensen also had an interest in construction and development. He spearheaded several buildings in Big Rapids now in use. Dr. Jensen was a member of the American Dental Association, The West Michigan Dental Association, Big Rapids Elks BPO #974, the Rotary Club, the United Church of Big Rapids and the Mecosta County area Chamber of Commerce. He will be remembered by his many business associates, his many, many patients throughout his years of practice, and his loving family including his wife Ardath of Davenport, IA, 2 sons, Mark (Deborah) Jensen of Flat Rock, AL, Larry Jay (Christa) Jensen of Windsor, NC, 2 daughters, Lois (Tony) Powers of Nashville, TN, Pat (David) Brasseur of Bettendorf, IA, 6 grandchildren, 3 great granchildren, A brother, Roger (Barbara) Jensen of Greensboro,NC 3 sisters, Betty Marie Anderson of Fort Wayne, IN, Peggy Jensen (Gerry Nehra) of Muskegon, MI and many nieces and nephews Besides his parents, Dr. Jensen was preceded in death by a sister Elaine Cassidy and a brother, Carl Jorgensen. Services will take place 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 4th at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids with Pastor Jon Fleming officiating and will include an Elks BPO #974 memorial service. Memorial contributions in Dr. Jensen's memory may be made to the University Of Detroit Mercy School Of Dentistry, or Hospice of Michigan.
